About the role: Teacher
Teachers plan lessons, assess progress and support the development of children and young people, from early years to secondary school. The UAE has a large private school sector offering British, American, International Baccalaureate, Indian and other curricula, alongside public schools run under the federal Ministry of Education.
Private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai, the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) and, in Sharjah, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, while the Ministry of Education covers public schools and runs teacher licensing. Schools generally require a recognised teaching qualification, a degree relevant to the subject taught and attested certificates for visa and approval purposes.
Most recruitment takes place for the academic year starting in late August or September, with many schools hiring from the autumn to the spring before. Demand is regular for early years, primary class teachers, mathematics, science, English, special educational needs, Arabic and Islamic studies teachers.
Main responsibilities
- Plan and deliver lessons following the curriculum
- Assess, track and report student progress
- Differentiate for learners with different needs
- Communicate with parents
- Contribute to school inspections and activities
Skills schools look for
- Teaching qualification and subject degree
- Experience with the school's curriculum
- Classroom management and safeguarding knowledge
- Use of data to improve learning
- Arabic for Arabic, Islamic studies and social studies posts
Before you apply
