About internship jobs
An internship gives students and recent graduates practical experience in a company, a government entity or a university. In the UAE, internships range from summer placements and mandatory work placements required by a degree programme to longer graduate trainee schemes run by large employers, which often combine rotations across departments with structured training.
Requirements depend on your status: students enrolled at a UAE university usually go through their university's careers or internship office, while non-students may need a specific permit, and many internships are open only to residents. A number of government and semi-government programmes are reserved for UAE nationals. Check whether the internship is paid, how long it lasts and what will be on your certificate, and apply several months ahead for summer placements, when competition is highest.
Tips for applying
- Ask your university careers office about partner employers
- Use a short CV highlighting projects, languages and software
- Write a cover note naming the department you want to join
- Check eligibility: residency, nationality and student status
- Keep your internship certificate and references
