About part-time jobs

Part-time work means working fewer hours or days than a full-time employee, for one or several employers. Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 formally recognises part-time employment in the private sector, and a part-time worker can hold contracts with more than one employer, provided the correct work permit has been issued by MOHRE or the relevant free zone.

Part-time jobs are most common in retail, hospitality, food delivery, education (tutoring and teaching assistants), fitness, events and some office support roles. Pay is usually calculated pro rata or by the hour, and entitlements such as end-of-service gratuity are calculated in proportion to the hours actually worked. If you already work full-time and want a second job, check whether your main employer's contract allows it and whether you need its consent for an additional permit.
