Airspace Regulatory Compliance Senior Specialist
Dubai Civil Aviation Authority
About the role: Compliance and risk
Compliance and risk professionals make sure an organisation follows the laws, regulations and internal rules that apply to it, and identify and manage the risks it faces. Typical roles include compliance officer, anti-money laundering (AML) specialist, risk analyst, regulatory affairs officer and data protection officer.
In the UAE, regulation has expanded quickly in areas such as anti-money laundering, data protection, tax and sector-specific licensing. Firms regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority in DIFC, the Financial Services Regulatory Authority in ADGM or Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority need compliance staff, and so do real estate brokers, dealers in precious metals, payment and fintech companies, healthcare providers, energy groups and government entities.
Employers look for detailed knowledge of the relevant regulations, sound judgement and the confidence to challenge the business when needed. Data protection roles require familiarity with the Personal Data Protection Law, Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021, and with the separate DIFC and ADGM data protection regimes.
Main responsibilities
- Monitor compliance with laws and regulations
- Run customer due diligence and AML checks
- Maintain policies and train employees
- Assess and report risks to management
- Liaise with regulators and auditors
Skills employers look for
- UAE AML and sanctions requirements
- Knowledge of DFSA, FSRA or sector regulations
- Data protection law
- Risk assessment and report writing
- Certifications such as ICA, CAMS or CIPP
Career path
Compliance professionals often come from law, audit or operations. Specialist certifications help candidates move between sectors, and senior compliance officers in regulated firms may need approval from the relevant regulator.
