About the role: HR officer and HR business partner
HR officers and HR business partners manage the employee side of an organisation: contracts, policies, payroll, performance, training and employee relations. In smaller companies one generalist covers everything, while larger organisations have specialists in compensation and benefits, learning and development or HR operations.
In the UAE, private-sector HR work is shaped by Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 on employment relations, in force since February 2022, under which all private-sector contracts are fixed-term. HR teams manage work permits with MOHRE, residence visas, salary payment through the Wage Protection System (WPS), end-of-service gratuity calculations and Emiratisation reporting. Companies in DIFC and ADGM follow their own employment laws.
Employers range from hotels, hospitals and schools to contractors, retailers, technology companies and government entities, which have their own HR rules. Fluency in English is essential, and Arabic is a real advantage for roles dealing with government relations or UAE national employees.
