About the role: HSE officer
HSE officers protect people, assets and the environment by identifying hazards, enforcing safe working practices and making sure operations comply with health, safety and environmental rules. In the UAE, they are essential on construction sites, in oil and gas, utilities, manufacturing, logistics, facilities management and events.
Requirements vary by emirate and sector: Abu Dhabi applies the OSHAD framework for occupational safety and health, Dubai Municipality and other local authorities issue their own rules, and Civil Defence oversees fire safety. Energy companies and their contractors add their own standards and permit-to-work systems. Heat stress is a specific concern, and the midday outdoor work ban applied each summer is part of the safety officer's daily routine.
Employers usually ask for an internationally recognised qualification such as NEBOSH or IOSH, plus experience on similar sites. Progression leads to HSE engineer, HSE manager and corporate HSE roles, or to specialisations in fire safety, environment or process safety.
