About the role: Driver
Drivers keep the UAE moving: they deliver goods to shops and building sites, transport staff and passengers, and carry parcels and meals to homes across every emirate. Roles range from light vehicle and van drivers to heavy truck, bus and tanker drivers, plus motorcycle delivery riders and private chauffeurs.
Employers include logistics and courier companies, construction and facilities management contractors, food distributors, e-commerce and delivery platforms, schools and staff transport operators, hotels and private households. Most positions require a valid UAE driving licence in the right category; heavy vehicle, bus and motorcycle licences are separate from the standard light vehicle licence, and some employers sponsor the training for the right candidate.
Good knowledge of the road network, a clean traffic record and reliability count as much as driving skill. Check each listing for working hours, whether a vehicle, fuel and accommodation are provided, and how pay is calculated, especially for delivery roles paid per order. Drivers on long routes or tankers may also need specific safety training required by the client.
Main responsibilities
- Transport goods, passengers or staff safely and on time
- Plan routes and follow delivery schedules
- Load, unload and check goods against delivery notes
- Carry out basic daily vehicle checks and report faults
- Keep trip logs, receipts and proof of delivery
Skills employers look for
- Valid UAE driving licence in the required category
- Clean driving record and knowledge of local roads
- Punctuality and courteous customer contact
- Use of GPS and delivery apps
- Basic English; Arabic or Hindi/Urdu is often a plus
Licences in the UAE
Driving licences are issued by the licensing authority of each emirate, such as the RTA in Dubai. Holders of licences from some countries can convert them, while others must complete training and tests at an approved driving institute. Heavy vehicle, bus and motorcycle categories each require their own licence.
