About the role: Warehouse and storekeeper
Warehouse staff receive, store and dispatch goods for importers, retailers, distributors and manufacturers. The family covers storekeepers, pickers and packers, forklift and reach truck operators, inventory controllers and warehouse supervisors or managers.
The UAE's role as a regional re-export hub means a large share of these jobs sits in and around free zones and logistics parks: Jebel Ali and Dubai South in Dubai, KEZAD and Mussafah in Abu Dhabi, and the industrial areas of Sharjah and Ajman. Construction and oil and gas projects also employ storekeepers on site to manage materials, tools and spare parts.
Employers expect accuracy in stock records and familiarity with a warehouse management system or ERP such as SAP or Oracle. Forklift operators generally need a recognised operator certificate, and supervisors are asked for experience with stock counts, KPIs and safety rules. Shift work, including nights and weekends, is common in distribution centres serving e-commerce and retail.
Main responsibilities
- Receive deliveries and check quantities and condition
- Store, pick, pack and dispatch orders
- Update stock records in the WMS or ERP
- Carry out cycle counts and stock reconciliations
- Operate forklifts and handling equipment safely
Skills employers look for
- Experience with SAP, Oracle or another WMS
- Forklift or reach truck operator certificate
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Knowledge of FIFO, FEFO and safe storage
- Basic computer skills and Excel
Where the jobs are
Logistics companies, freight forwarders, retail and FMCG distributors, e-commerce fulfilment centres, manufacturers and project contractors all recruit warehouse teams, with the highest concentration in free zones and industrial areas near the main ports and airports.
