About the role: Financial analyst
Financial analysts help organisations plan and understand their performance. Working in financial planning and analysis (FP&A), corporate finance or investment teams, they build budgets and forecasts, analyse results against targets, model projects and support strategic decisions.
In the UAE, financial analysts are hired by conglomerates and family groups, real estate developers, retail and hospitality groups, airlines, energy and industrial companies, government-related entities and investment firms in DIFC and ADGM. Large investment and holding companies based in Abu Dhabi and Dubai also recruit analysts for portfolio monitoring and valuation.
Strong Excel modelling is essential, and employers increasingly expect experience with business intelligence tools and ERP systems. Communication skills are key: analysts often present to senior management and must turn complex numbers into a clear recommendation.
Main responsibilities
- Prepare budgets, forecasts and long-range plans
- Analyse actual results against budget and explain variances
- Build financial models and business cases
- Produce management reports and KPI dashboards
- Support valuation and investment decisions
Skills employers look for
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling
- Power BI, Tableau or similar tools
- Solid accounting knowledge (IFRS)
- ERP and planning systems
- Clear presentations for senior management
Qualifications in the UAE
A degree in finance, accounting or economics is expected. CFA, CMA, ACCA or CPA qualifications are well regarded, and a CFA is particularly valued for investment and valuation roles.
