About the role: Nurse
Nurses assess patients, give prescribed treatments, monitor vital signs and coordinate care with doctors and the wider clinical team. In the UAE, nursing is one of the largest healthcare professions, with registered nurses, specialist nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants working in hospitals, day-surgery centres, clinics, home care and occupational health.
Every nurse needs a professional licence from the health regulator of the emirate where they will work: the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) in Dubai, the Department of Health (DOH) in Abu Dhabi, and the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) for the other emirates. Licensing usually involves verification of your qualifications and experience by a primary source verification provider, followed by an assessment. Many employers only recruit candidates who already hold a licence or an eligibility letter, so check the requirements early.
Demand is strong in critical care, emergency, operating theatre, paediatrics, neonatal intensive care, dialysis and oncology. Shift work, nights and weekends are standard in hospitals. Arabic is an advantage for patient communication, but English is the working language in most facilities.
Main responsibilities
- Assess patients and plan nursing care
- Administer medication and treatments as prescribed
- Monitor vital signs and report changes
- Keep accurate electronic patient records
- Educate patients and families before discharge
Skills employers look for
- Current licence or eligibility with DHA, DOH or MOHAP
- Recent hands-on experience in the specialty advertised
- BLS, and ACLS or PALS for acute areas
- Infection control and patient safety practice
- Clear communication with a multicultural team
Licensing in the UAE
Prepare attested copies of your nursing degree, registration in your home country and experience certificates. Requirements differ between DHA, DOH and MOHAP, so follow the regulator of the emirate where the job is based.
