About the role: Oil, gas and energy
Oil, gas and energy is one of the pillars of the UAE economy. Jobs span exploration and production, refining and petrochemicals, gas processing, power generation, renewables and nuclear energy, together with the engineering, construction and service companies that support them.
Abu Dhabi holds most of the country's hydrocarbon resources, with the ADNOC group and its operating companies at the centre of the sector, onshore, offshore and in the industrial city of Ruwais. Dubai is home to ENOC, and Fujairah is a major centre for oil storage and bunkering. The energy transition adds solar parks, the Barakah nuclear plant and clean energy companies such as Masdar.
Roles include process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and reservoir engineers, operators and technicians, HSE specialists, planners and project managers. Employers expect experience in comparable facilities and strict safety culture. Offshore and remote sites often work on rotation and require specific safety training, such as offshore survival courses, before mobilisation.
Main responsibilities
- Operate and monitor production and process units
- Design, maintain and improve plant equipment
- Plan shutdowns, turnarounds and projects
- Apply HSE procedures and permit-to-work systems
- Analyse performance, integrity and reliability data
Skills employers look for
- Engineering degree or technical diploma
- Experience in oil, gas, petrochemical or power plants
- Knowledge of API, ASME and international standards
- Strong safety culture
- Ability to work on rotation or in remote locations
Training and certification
Offshore roles usually require recognised safety training such as OPITO-approved courses, and most sites ask for up-to-date HSE certificates. Many national energy companies run graduate and development programmes aimed at UAE nationals.
