About the role: Waiter and F&B service
Food and beverage service staff look after guests in restaurants, cafés, hotel outlets, lounges and events. The family includes waiters and waitresses, hosts, baristas, bartenders, sommeliers, banquet staff and F&B supervisors and managers.
Hotels, restaurant and café groups, beach clubs, airline lounges, event caterers and entertainment venues across the UAE recruit service staff all year, with extra hiring around new openings and the busy winter season. Guests come from all over the world, so a friendly, polished service style and good English are the starting point; other languages are an asset.
Employers look for previous experience, knowledge of menus and service sequence, and familiarity with point-of-sale systems. Baristas and bartenders are asked for product knowledge and speed. Shifts follow opening hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays. Many hospitality employers provide accommodation, transport or meals, which is worth comparing between offers.
Main responsibilities
- Welcome guests and take orders
- Serve food and beverages to standard
- Advise on menus, drinks and pairings
- Handle payments on the POS system
- Keep the service area clean and prepared
Skills employers look for
- Previous F&B service experience
- Good English; extra languages valued
- Friendly, guest-focused attitude
- Product knowledge for coffee or beverages
- Teamwork and stamina during busy services
Getting started
Entry-level roles such as commis waiter or runner are a common way in. Hospitality diplomas help, but many employers train new hires on their own service standards, and good performers can move up to captain, supervisor and outlet manager.
