About the role: Data scientist and AI
Data scientists and AI engineers build models that predict, classify, recommend or generate content, and put them into production. The field ranges from classic machine learning on business data to deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision and work with large language models.
Artificial intelligence is a national priority in the UAE, which appointed a Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence in 2017. Abu Dhabi hosts the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and the Technology Innovation Institute, while AI companies, telecoms operators, airlines, retailers, energy groups and government entities run their own data science teams.
Research roles generally expect a master's degree or PhD and a publication record, while applied roles value production experience: deploying models, monitoring them and working with engineers. Arabic language processing is a niche where bilingual candidates stand out.
Main responsibilities
- Frame business problems as modelling tasks
- Prepare features and training data
- Train, evaluate and tune models
- Deploy and monitor models in production (MLOps)
- Explain results and limitations to stakeholders
Skills employers look for
- Python, with pandas, scikit-learn and PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Statistics and experimental design
- SQL and big data tools such as Spark
- Cloud ML platforms and MLOps practices
- Experience with LLMs, NLP or computer vision
Applying in the UAE
Show concrete outcomes: models in production, measurable impact, papers or open-source contributions. Employers working with personal data expect awareness of Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on personal data protection and of responsible AI practices.
