About the role: Web developer
Web developers build the websites, portals and web applications that customers and staff use every day. The role spans front-end work on interfaces in the browser, back-end work on servers, databases and APIs, and full-stack positions that combine both.
In the UAE, web developers are hired by digital agencies, e-commerce and retail groups, real estate and hospitality companies, start-ups and government entities whose services are largely delivered online. Bilingual websites are common, so experience building right-to-left Arabic layouts alongside English is a genuine advantage.
Front-end roles typically ask for JavaScript or TypeScript with React, Angular or Vue.js, responsive design and accessibility. Back-end and full-stack roles add Node.js, PHP with Laravel, Python or .NET, plus SQL databases. Agencies also recruit WordPress and Shopify developers for marketing sites and online shops.
Main responsibilities
- Turn designs into responsive, accessible interfaces
- Build and integrate APIs and back-end services
- Optimise page speed, SEO foundations and security
- Support bilingual English and Arabic content
- Maintain and update existing websites and CMS platforms
Skills employers look for
- HTML, CSS and modern JavaScript or TypeScript
- React, Angular or Vue.js
- Node.js, PHP/Laravel, Python or .NET on the back end
- Git and basic DevOps practices
- Right-to-left (RTL) layout experience
Applying in the UAE
Recruiters usually want to see live work. Include links to sites or apps you built, explain your exact contribution and keep a GitHub or portfolio page up to date. Agencies often test candidates with a short practical exercise.
