About the role: IT support
IT support staff keep computers, networks and business applications working for the people who use them. They answer help desk requests, set up equipment and accounts, troubleshoot hardware and software problems and escalate complex issues to specialist teams.
Almost every organisation in the UAE needs IT support: hotels and hospitality groups, schools and universities, hospitals and clinics, retailers, construction and engineering firms, government entities and managed service providers who support many smaller clients. Roles range from help desk agent and desktop support technician to IT officer, system administrator and IT manager.
Customer service skills matter as much as technical knowledge, because the job is about helping colleagues under time pressure. Shift work and on-call duties are common in hotels, hospitals and 24-hour operations. A driving licence is useful for field roles that cover several sites.
Main responsibilities
- Handle help desk tickets by phone, email and in person
- Install and configure laptops, printers and mobile devices
- Manage user accounts in Active Directory or Microsoft 365
- Troubleshoot network, Wi-Fi and application issues
- Keep an inventory of IT assets and document fixes
Skills employers look for
- Windows and macOS support
- Microsoft 365, Active Directory and Intune
- Basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN)
- Ticketing tools and ITIL practices
- Patience and clear communication
Certifications
CompTIA A+ and Network+, Microsoft certifications and ITIL Foundation are common entry points and are widely recognised by UAE employers. They are a practical way to move from help desk work into system administration.
